Julie Biggs

BEd, MMus

WCM founder and Director, Julie Biggs holds a Master of Music in Voice and Opera Studies from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance and a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Minot State University in North Dakota. Julie attended the International Institute of the Vocal Arts in Chirai, Italy as well as the Ost-West Musik Akademie in Altenberg, Germany.

Julie has taught private voice and piano for over 20 years. An active conductor, Julie has recently worked with WCM’s Pops choir, Viva L’Italia and St Mary’s High School.

Julie was an active member of the Association of Manitoba Arts Festivals and has adjudicated throughout the province. Julie has been a frequent judge of the Western Canadian Music Awards as well as Canada’s music awards – the Junos.

In addition to teaching, Julie is an active performer and recording artist. Her debut album My Loving Days was nominated for a Prairie Music Award for Outstanding Classical Recording. Julie’s second album Passions: Art of Seduction was released January 2009 and was distributed nationally by Outside Music. 

She has performed in many operas and musicals as well as given many concerts and recitals in Canada, the United States and abroad. Operatic performances include the Fargo-Moorhead Opera Company; the Western Plains Opera Company; the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Winnipeg; and The Little Opera Company. Julie has performed in concert with The Minot Symphony; the Ost-West Symphony, The Missouri Valley Chamber Orchestra (Bismarck, N.D.), The Western Canadian music awards and for The International Peace Gardens.

Julie is the founder and manager of The Yuletide Singers, carolers in costume. This a cappella quartet can be seen singing throughout the province during the holiday season. 

Julie has appeared in over 10 movies and is a proud member of ACTRA. Recent appearances include A Miracle in Bethlehem, PA and episodes 1-5 of Holiday Shift.
