PRIVATE LESSONS
The WCM is pleased to offer individual instruction/private lessons throughout the school year from September-June. Individual Music Instruction is available in voice, piano, violin, cello, saxophone, guitar, bass, percussion, drums, clarinet, and flute. Teachers work one on one with students and are able to tailor the lesson to the student. All private instructors at the WCM hold a minimum of a Bachelor of Music and are leaders in their fields of expertise.

 

 

2017-2018

Lessons begin September 6th, 2017 and run 34-38 weeks depending upon the instructor. Lessons are 30- 90 minutes depending on age and skill level of the individual student.

A fun and playful course for parents and their children!

Each week parents and their children make music and have fun through songs, singing games, story time, finger play, rhythm instruments and dance.

Kinder String 


Beginner Violin for children and their parents ages 4-6

Does your child love to sing and dance? Does your child have an interest in playing an instrument? Then this is the class for you!

Kinder String is a program for parents and their children ages 4-6 years. The class includes violin basics and note reading followed by circle time with movement, songs, and singing games.

Rock Band

Wanted: Guitarists, Bassists, Drummers, Keyboardists and Singers. The group will play a variety of rock styles. The course will end with a performance at an all-ages show. In addition to playing in a group this course teaches students how to set-up and care for sound systems and equipment, how to select band members and avoid classic rock band pitfalls.

WCM Marquee Players

A Musical Theatre Program for grades 4-12

This fun-filled course is for students with a passion for musical theatre!

 

The Winnipeg Conservatory of Music’s Marquee Players is an auditioned musical theatre company for students from grade 4 to grade 12.  Director Paula Olko (Director of St. James Divisional Musical Theatre and Piper Pride Productions) produces two full productions each year. Students will work on singing, drama games, acting roles, scene work and dancing.

 

Time: Fridays from 5:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M.

 

Location: Regular rehearsals are held at the Winnipeg Conservatory of Music which is located at 61 Picardy Place.

 

Performance dates: December 9th & 10th, 2017; June 2nd & 3rd, 2018

 

Class minimum: 16 students.

Tuition: The program runs from September-May.  Tuition is $72.25 each month. There is an annual $100 fee due at the time of acceptance into the program that will cover CD’s, scores, royalties and costumes for the year.

 

Please note: The WCM is a certified educational institute and all tuition is eligible for a Child Arts Tax Credit or T2202a pending on the age of the student.

The Conservatory Chamber Choir

The Conservatory Chamber Choir sings madrigals, and contemporary works with an emphasis on harmony while singing with piano or unaccompanied. This group makes beautiful music in four part harmony. If you enjoy smaller groups (10-16 singers) and part singing then this is the group for you! This group performs at the WCM coffeehouse, Christmas and Spring choral concerts and at Envision: Wolseley’s Arts Festival

 

The Conservatory Singers rehearses 30 weeks and runs from September –May. The group performs in December at the WCM choral concert, and in the spring at Envison: Wolseley’s Arts Festival and WCM Spring Choral Concert.

The ability to read music is an asset but not required.

 

Rehearsals: Thursday 6:30-7:30 P.M.

 

Annual Tuition: $325

WCM Pops Choir

The WCM Pops Choir is the only choir of its kind in the city- this group rehearses with three professional musicians on piano, bass, and drums. A fun-filled evening for those who love to sing! This group sings folk, pop and jazz. If you like an energetic and enthusiastic group to sing and play with then this is the one for you. This group performs at the WCM coffeehouse, Christmas and Spring choral concerts and at Envision: Wolseley’s Arts Festival

Music Theory

Royal Conservatory of Music theory levels I and II:

 

Basic Rudiments and Intermediate Rudiments

 

These courses prepare students to take the Royal Conservatory of Music Basic Rudiments and Intermediate Rudiment exams which will be given in December and May. Basic Rudiments is co-requisite for all instrumentalists and voice students who are studying at the RCM level of grade 5 or higher.

 

Instructor Jerry Semchyshyn promises to offer a fresh take on theory keeping it upbeat and interesting.

Text:

The text that will be used is called Complete Elementary Music Rudiments by Mark Sarnecki which is available at most music stores.

 

Music Theory levels III and IV are available upon request.

Summer Programs

Private Lessons

Private Lessons in Voice, Guitar, Piano and more are available throughout the months of July and August in groups of 4 or 8.

Summer Camp for Sax Doublers

The Winnipeg Conservatory of Music in collaboration with award-winning Educator and saxophone artist Janice Finlay is pleased to offer the Summer Camp for Sax Doublers again this year.

Date: July 17-21, 2017

Time: 12:30-4:00

Who: Summer Camp for Sax Doublers is designed for middle school band students that want to switch to, or double on, saxophone.

What: This camp allows students to participate in master classes, large and small ensembles This intensive saxophone study session is designed to give students a great start and a solid foundation so that they can be up-to-speed when they return to band class in September. The course will conclude with a performance for friends and family on the Friday of each camp.

After completing the camp students return to school excited and ready to take on the challenges of being a sax doubler!

Tuition: The camp cost is $165 per student if registered by June 3rd. $175 after June 3rd.

This course is eligible for a Children’s Arts Tax Credit  and a receipt for the total amount will be provided upon registration.

Woodwind Whizards Ensemble Camp

Date: July 10-14, 2017

 

Time: 12:30-4:00

 

Who: Woodwind Whizards Ensemble Camp is designed for woodwind players (flute, oboe, clarinet, sax and bassoon) who have played for a minimum of two years.

 

What: This camp gives students an opportunity to work with double reed specialist Julie Husband and woodwind specialist Janice Finlay in an ensemble setting. Students  participate in master classes, large and small ensembles. The course will conclude with a performance for friends and family on Friday, July 14th.

 

Tuition: The camp cost is $165 per student if registered by June 3rd. $175 after June 3rd.

 

This course is eligible for a Children’s Arts Tax Credit  and a receipt for the total amount will be provided upon registration.

Singing Camp for Adults (16+)

Are you interested in singing, but aren't sure if you're ready for individual coaching?

 

Do you prefer to work in a group without the pressure of solo singing?

 

Are you a singer wanting a quick refresher course in order to avoid developing bad habits?

 

This class is suitable for any singer up to the advanced level. Each class touches on the different aspect of technique. The songs used in calls are adjusted to suit those enrolled. No sight reading required.

 

Part One: Getting (Re) Started

Dates: August 8th and 10th; August 15th and 17th 6:30-8:30 PM

 

Part Two: Finding Your Voice

Dates: August 22nd and 24th; August 29th and 31st 6:30-8:30 PM
